Making Space

Making Space

One of the joys of my life is showing my granddaughter new things. She is discovering the world.

One of the joys of God’s heart is showing us the depth and breadth of his love. I can hardly conceive it but it delights him even more than it delights me. There is not just a world but an infinity of love and glory to discover. Every day, God wants to share himself with us.

However old we are, that journey continues. At 92, my dad told me that he has been learning to hear the voice of God in a new way. A while ago, I wrote about how dad’s midnight Alphabets and I couldn’t resist sharing his latest one. It has blessed me and I hope it blesses you. I have been meditating on a line a day.

As we embark on a new term, I’m more aware than ever that nothing I do will bear eternal fruit unless I listen to God’s voice.

So where will you and I make space and quiet where we don’t drown out the voice of God? As diaries fill up for a new term, this is the biggest priority.

One suggestion for you – my friends, Andrea and Pete, have set up a beautiful retreat house in the stunning Lake District called Poiema  - this is the view. If you’ve never been on a retreat and can possibly arrange it, retreating has been a great blessing to me. It always helps me to get outside my four walls and seek my Creator in his creation. If the Lakes are too far, how about a walk in the park with God? If you’re like me, it will take a while for your mind to stop loudly whirring but eventually you will discover that God is waiting for us - waiting for our attention. Our loving father always has more to show us.

With my love,

Kate
