The Same Saviour

The Same Saviour

Many moons ago, a teenage girl was at a meeting where a young evangelist spoke about the Cross and she gave her life to follow Christ. That was me and the evangelist was a fresh-faced young man called J. John (now a Canon and still looking fresh!). I had grown up with faith but that was the day when the Cross made sense and I asked Jesus to be my Saviour. .

J. John interviewed me recently for Facing the Canon – what a privilege! It is out on Sunday and the link is here if you would like to see it!

Preparing this, I stumbled on this spectacular photo of J John and lovely Killy on Facebook. It would have been about the time when he spoke at that pivotal event in my life. 80s inimitable fashion but still the same Saviour!

I still need a Saviour. Today I had a new door fitted and they broke my alarm system. In a fallen world, stuff breaks, people are broken and sometimes I’m confronted with my own broken edges. But oh, how my perspective changes when I remember I have a Saviour and he is able to save completely (Hebrews 7:25).

Last week, we started leading another Alpha course in prison. 1 in 3 women in prison self-harm every year. What can we offer in the face of such heartbreaking hopelessness? A Saviour.

We watch in awe as people change in front of us and I don’t ever want to take this gift of salvation for granted. Words cannot express the wonder of it. My little meditation below is like a child’s drawing (or one of mine!) but it is so good to think on it.

Knowing Jesus is our Saviour changes the good and the tough moments of life. I was praying with someone last week who has a terminal diagnosis. But she knows she has a Saviour and is extraordinarily peaceful.

Whatever life is bringing to you – take a moment to cherish this - Jesus is our Saviour.

“We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son as Saviour of the world” (1 John 4:14)

Jesus

You left your home to bring me home

You entered the dark to light up my life

You became sin – to make me holy

You became poor – to make me rich

You were wounded to heal me, imprisoned to free me, forsaken to make me secure

You left your Father’s side to make me the Father’s child

You went low to lift me up into his arms

You entered history to give me eternity

Jesus, my Saviour, my Lord

With my love,

Kate
