When we run dry

After the glorious sunshine of the last weeks, my poor lawn is piebald, there are valiant green patches by the fence but the rest is straggly yellow with brown patches where the dog has taken to rolling and creating a dust bath. In fact, I just had to interrupt this to call him in, the guilty evidence on his coat.
Needless to say, the photo above is not my garden but from the Chelsea flower show where the organisers put in a borehole especially for the event and then water daily.
God says of his garden, “I, the LORD, watch over it; I water it continually. I keep it day and night so that no one may harm it”. Isaiah 27:3
God is our loving gardener who has put a borehole in our lives, a spring which continually waters the dry ground.
What is this spring? No less than a spring of his holy presence, a spring of the Spirit of God.
Jesus said,“…whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” John 4.14
When we run dry, God offers an endless spring of himself, his Holy Spirit.
When we fail, here is a spring of grace that never runs out.
When we need help, here is a well of salvation.
When we are heartsick, here is an endless source of unfailing love, peace and hope for us and for those we love.
What do you need today?
This is God’s promise to us:
“You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail." Isaiah 58:11
