Fresh springs

Fresh springs

After our long, dry summer, the lake in Snowdonia was lower than I had ever seen it. But the heavens had opened at the weekend and everywhere there were fresh springs, bubbling down from the mountain, tumbling into the lake.

Before I went away, God had laid this verse on my heart,

All my fresh springs are in you

Psalm 87:7

All week, it came back to me as I walked beside sparkling water.

I recently attended the wedding of dear friends, Trevor and Nisha, and found myself praying this verse over their life together, the promise of endless new resources of grace and love for their marriage. Then, the Vicar preached on how the love of God would be the infinite source of their love for each other.

I was reminded again of that verse when I drove through Kingston today and spotted this sign - “The source is the solution”! It is true for us though I am not sure what it meant in that context. When our lives feel arid, when we are struggling to summon up the strength to forgive and to love, God offers fresh springs.

Yesterday, I was at a prison Alpha Holy Spirit Day. It was a precious time as every woman there asked for prayer. So many have known the agony of losing access to their children. What can I offer for such desolation? Only Jesus can bring healing to such heartbreak with his loving presence that bubbles up deep within.

Here is the little video of my walk by the lake. May you know today that every day, there are fresh springs of God’s presence for you too.
