Always Wanted

Always Wanted

I am trundling back from Birmingham to Euston in my reserved seat and thinking about the far bigger journey which begins and ends with God.

In all the crazy insecurity of our politics, here is truth to trust. The one who says, “I am the beginning” is your beginning. He planned you before you took a breath.  He gave you that breath. We are so much more than a random bunch of cells.

You were always wanted.

The Father says, “I have loved you with an everlasting love” (Jeremiah 31:3)

I had spoken at a Filling Station where I knew I needed to remind people that they were always wanted.  Even if their parents hadn’t wanted them. I asked everyone to turn to the person next to them and say, “you were always wanted”. At the end, someone came up to me, tears in his eyes. He had recently met his birth mother only to find that she had lived an apparently happy life without him. Last night, he was overwhelmed to meet the God who had always wanted him.

God always wanted you and he will always will.

Love is our beginning and our ending.  And if God has our beginning and our end, we can trust him with the middle, even the hard bits. The hard bits can be oh so very painful but what a difference it makes when we know that we are wanted by God forever.
